Known as @adminandeve on TikTok, knew she was getting laid several months in advance and shared the ‘warning signs’ in a video

In the video she shared how to spot the signs, prompting many viewers to share their own advice in the comments section

She began her video by noting she had already went through two sets of corporate layoffs and while she went through the first two unscathed, she added this time she wouldn’t be as ‘lucky.’

Eve, who works in tech, added she predicted her company is going to lay off employees ‘tomorrow.’

‘How did I know my company was going to be going through rounds of layoffs two months they were actually announced?

‘And how can you take a look at these warning signs and see the writing on the wall too. Let’s get into it,’ she said.

Eve compiled a list of four indications a company is laying off workers and told her followers how they could ‘see the writing on the wall.’

She began by pointing out a change in executives behaviors could mean a round of layoff were near.

‘Executive and senior leadership, even your managers, will start acting a little bit funny.’

‘Maybe they’ll stop engaging with the team in ways that they usually would or maybe they’ll start focusing on random things…like, they’ll ask specific questions about budgets,’ Eve said.

The New Yorker added that when senior leadership begins asking about budget, then you know there are budget issues.

Eve said scrapping ‘big dollar projects’ such as office renovations or projects they were ‘excited’ about months earlier, is another tell tale sign a company is about to layoff their employees.

She added: ‘[Companies] do this to conserve money.’

Next on her list was hiring freezes.

Eve added her company halted hiring for new positions or enacted a ‘hiring freeze.’

Eve, who works in tech, noted budget cuts, hiring freezes, unprompted feedback and ‘funny’ behavior from senior leadership as ‘warning sings’

Her followers told others to watch out when managers ask for your passwords, tell you to take PTO and when the company bathrooms run out of soap

Now, the New Yorker is taking her followers along for her job hunt and sharing the ‘red flags’ of jobs; Eve shared two ‘red flags’ including working overnights and remote work requirements

She noted the tech startup company she was working for ‘froze every single open role except for executive leadership.’

A slowdown or freeze in hiring may mean a company is trying to cut costs and is another warning sign of future layoffs.

Once a company has saved all they can by enacting a hiring freeze, it’s most likely layoffs are next.

Eve added that employees who are about to get laid off may also start to receive feedback they aren’t accustomed to about their job performance.

‘This might be to build a case to put you on the chopping block. Cause they can’t cite performance issues if there’s not one,’ Eve concluded.

Eve appeared to be spot on about the upcoming round of layoffs as she shared a follow up video revealing she was laid off via email.

Furthermore, Eve said while reading the email which gave her the bad news she was locked out of her company email and had to re-request access to finish reading the email.

And it appears as though Eve isn’t alone in her recent job loss.

According to Layoffs.fyi, a website that tracks the number of layoffs in the tech industry, over 68,400 tech employees have lost their job this year.

Some of the biggest names in tech have announced hiring freezes and layoffs, according to Forbes, including Google who initially announced it was slowing down hiring for the remainder of 2022, then announced a two-week hiring pause in July.

Other companies include Netflix who laid off 150 employees in May and another 300 in June and Twitter which began rescinding job offers in May then laid off 30 per cent of its talent acquisition employees in July.

LinkedIn’s latest workforce report found that several industries experienced hiring surges in June, while tech hiring fell 9.1 per cent.

Following her job loss, Eve is now taking her followers along on her hunt for a job, even sharing the red flags of companies.

While showing job listings on LinkedIn, the New Yorker noted some red flags of hiring jobs including evening and weekend work, high-speed internet connection and an uninterrupted location to take work calls for remote work.

And Eve isn’t the only one who has noticed the ‘writing on the wall,’  many of her followers took to her comments section to share their own experiences with company layoffs.

One user said: ‘Big sign: they start running out of soap in the bathrooms. They stop paying vendors first. Been through 2 and the soap is a red flag.’

‘Mine was they stopped providing free coffee and gummy bears Lmaooo,’ added one user.

Another commented: ‘The biggest warning sign for me in retrospect was them asking us to make sure we had all our passwords/subscriptions in a master list.’

‘My brother just got laid off but they didn’t tell him. He found out by watching the news,’ commented another user.

Another user added: ‘Same here! I found out my company went bankrupt on the news first! Then my boss calls me to pick up my check and cash it in before 2pm lol it was wild.’

‘Exec here. If they are citing performance issues they are muddying the waters to make themselves feel better. Layoffs are terms without cause,’ said another user.
