A quartet of high-profile European soccer clubs unveiled new home kits for the 2022-23 season on Friday, with Serie A giants Juventus and perennial Bundesliga contenders Borussia Dortmund leading the way.

As is often the case with unveilings around this time of year, the new kits will likely be worn in each team’s final home game of their current domestic league season in the next couple of weeks.

Let’s take a closer look at the four jerseys unveiled Friday …

Borussia Dortmund retain their familiar black-and-yellow home colour scheme for 2022-23, but this time with black vertical stripes down the front of a yellow shirt manufactured by Puma. The black stripes contain a tonal pattern inspired by the windows at the Wildschütz restaurant, where 18 men met in 1909 to found the club.

Most of the crew neck collar is black, save for a small portion at the back. The sleeve cuffs are broad and black.

The name and number fonts on the back are the same the club used on a ’90s throwback kit they debuted at the end of the 2020-21 season. The slogan “BORUSSIA VERBINDET” (“Borussia unites”) is printed on the back collar as a “reminder that we can overcome all odds if we stick together.”

Juventus is putting a new twist on their traditional home look of black and white stripes for 2022-23. This season, the black stripes are made up of triangles to mimic the architecture of the club’s home ground, Allianz Stadium. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are black, as are the Adidas shoulder stripes. A new logo for sponsor Jeep appears on the front, with lightning bolts through the letters.

The shorts that go with the shirt are white with black Adidas stripes down each side and black inserts at the hems. The socks are white with black Adidas stripes on the cuff, a hoop made up of triangles to mimic the shirt, a Juventus crest on the front and an Adidas logo on the back.

After introducing the slogan “Rise. Risk. Repeat.” as part of its new visual identity in May 2021, French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco is doubling down on it, literally ingraining it into their home kits for 2022-23. The shirt, made by Kappa, features the club’s traditional diagonal red-and-white split on the front; inside the red portion are tonal pinstripes comprised of the “Rise. Risk. Repeat.” slogan.

The sleeves are white with a red cuff. A red insert at the back collar contains the Monegasque crown from the club crest. The slogan is also printed inside the collar.

The shorts that go with the shirt are white with red inserts at the hems and red Kappa logos running down each side. Like the shirt, the socks are split diagonally between red and white, with “MONACO” written in red across the front.

The 2022-23 home kits for French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, manufactured by Puma, are predominantly red and features a tonal print all over the front and sleeves of consisting of the ermines from the flag of Brittany, the region of France where the club is based.

A single black vertical stripe runs from just under the crest to the bottom of the shirt. The wide sleeve cuffs are black. The V-neck collar has black inserts in both the front and back. “1901” is written in white on the back, just below the collar, denoting the year the club was founded.
